Year 5 - St Elizabeth

St Elizabeth

Religious Education

We read Pope Francis' encyclical Fratelli Tutti which means, 'All Brothers and Sisters'. In it he speaks about how we need to develop fraternal love for each other as part of a global community. At the end of the lesson, we reflected on the big question, "How can we listen and be kind and be a good global neighbour?"

Sample of Work - RE

Year 5 have written newspaper reports. Firstly, they analysed newspapers and learnt about the main features. They looked at different catchy headlines and created some of their own. Children were taught how to structure their newspaper reports using the following success criteria: write an orientation paragraph answering the five ‘Ws,’ (what, who, where, when and why), use the past tense and third person, select formal language and include both reported and direct speech. Some children chose to write about a familiar event their trip to Sayers Croft in Year 4. We hope you enjoy their reports.

Year 5 have been writing detective fiction.  The children have looked at how a detective story is structured.  They have been creating an atmosphere using descriptive vocabulary.  Furthermore, they have learnt how to build up suspense in a story using punctuation like ellipses and short sentence structure.  Finally, they learnt how to include a 'red herring'. Year 5  have enjoyed writing in this genre and we hope you enjoy these fantastic examples.
