TARU Arts – Green Chain Walk Project – October 2011

Year 6 took part in an exciting community project provided by TARU Arts. The aim of the project was to encourage the children to make use of the open spaces and activities within the Green Chain Walk, whilst developing team building skills and an awareness of healthy living.

The children took part in Music, Dance, Art & DT workshops in School and visited Maryon Wilson Park where they learnt about nature and habitats through challenging activities.

The project culminated in a parade through Woolwich with children from Cardwell School. The sun shone and great fun was had by all!

Once again the children are to be congratulated on their exemplary behaviour throughout.

Quotes from our children about what they learned by taking part:

  • I have learned that I am an OK musician and can be creative when I want to be
  • I have learned about the beauty of nature and that it is important to keep the environment safe
  • I have learned how to make costumes which was really fun and simple so I can make it at home and learned in the games we played many facts like how do you tell how old a tree is?
  • We learned to work as a team together and listen to each other
  • I have learned new beats and instruments / costumes you can make by recycling.

The children were asked what they would do if they had a large amount of money – what would they spend it on? It was good to see that lots of children mentioned that money could help others. They also had to work out what change they might expect when spending a given amount – all good experience for the outside world.

They also had the opportunity to work on their Team Building Skills in the afternoon with a construction challenge - designed to help them improve their communication skills and introduce them to some of the different job roles found in the construction sector. They had an amazing day and came away with a much broader knowledge of different career choices open to them.

Cricket Final – Lords Cricket Ground – January 2011

Ten members of Year 5 had the opportunity to go to Lords Cricket Ground to play in the Greenwich Borough Finals. They had a great day and came 3rd overall.

Parents and Governors supported the event and one commented:

‘The children of Our Lady of Grace gathered at the MCC Indoor School Centre at Lords. Their first game was a hard fought one against Montbelle ending in a 70-72 near loss.  Deansfield won the second game before Our Lady of Grace got a chance to play again but first was the final, won by Montbelle.  Our Lady of Grace were now playing for 3rd or 4th place and with some positive coaching and encouragement from Miss Dellavalle they stormed the field, scoring 102 before being declared the Victors.  In the historic grounds at Lords the children won an impressive 3rd place – what an experience, what a brilliant effort.’  Angela Creech, Governor
