Homework Topic – Year 3: St Martin
Dear Parents,
Happy New Year and welcome back.
Literacy
This term we will be studying the purposes of instructional text e.g. recipes; timetables; the use of lists, etc.
For the second half of the term we will explore all aspects of dialogues and plays. We will also focus on various authors work.
The children’s reading homework is very important at this stage and they will also have weekly spellings in class.
Numeracy
Our work this term will include reading scales and dials, especially those concerned with weight.
The tables to be learned are the 4 and 6 times tables and revision of the 2, 3, 5 and 10 times.
Understanding money and ‘real life’ problems i.e. adding up simple bills; giving money and receiving change.
Understanding time: to read time to five minutes on analogue and twelve-hour digital clocks e.g.9.40
Science
Our work for this term involves the study of soil and rocks and aspects of plant growth.
We would be grateful if you could plant a bulb or some seeds in a small pot and allow your child to bring it in to school for us to chart its growth.
Geography
We will be focusing on our local area and looking at ways it has changed and considering how it could be improved.
RE
This term we will also start our preparations for the sacraments of confession and Holy communion.
Yours sincerely,
SINEAD CORBETT
Class Teacher
