Homework Topic - Year 4
Year 4 - St Peter’s Class
During this term, it would be helpful if you did the following at home with your child to help them consolidate the work we are doing in class.
Maths
Year 4 are focusing on adding two and three digit numbers. They have been taught a range of strategies to use when adding, subtracting and multiplying. These include estimating through rounding up or down, working out their answers using number lines and written vertical methods.
It would benefit your child if you could practise some addition and subtraction at home or even on the journey to and from school. You could ask your child to select two or three items from a takeaway menu and work out the price or even how much money you would have to add to 50p to buy a 69p drink. In addition to the above we will also be revising the times tables.
English
The main homework is reading and short writing. It would be helpful if you discussed the reading tasks set before your child writes their response in their homework book. In addition to this, could you discuss possible storylines to help your child to complete the different short writing tasks set each week. We are also trying to develop the children’s speaking and listening skills and we believe these could be enhanced through the children watching and discussing news reports, with you, once or twice a week.
Science
If you are able to highlight the everyday use of electricity around the home, it may help your child’s understanding of how we use electricity. We will shortly be learning about “Friction” and “Circuits and Conductors”.
Other
In Geography we are looking at how people live in a different part of the world. We are focusing on the rainforests and examining climate and culture. We will also be looking at the similarities and differences between England and the rainforests.
Thank you for your continued support.
