Homework Topic – Yr 5: St Elizabeth
Dear Parents,
Welcome back. This term the children in St Elizabeth’s are studying Rivers and Water and Life Cycles.
Your help in any of the following areas would be very welcome.
Maths
- Subtraction of 3 digit numbers
- Discuss 2D and 3D shapes – names and properties
- Practise multiplication tables
- Calculating cost and giving change
- Telling the time – analogue and digital clocks and time problems
- Adding decimal numbers
Science
- Talk about the different parts of a flower
- Discuss how seeds disperse and grow
- Find out how insects pollinate flowers
Literacy
The children are expected to read 20 pages of their chosen book every night. A weekly reading check is taken. Please try to discuss these books with your child and read at least once a week to them, so as to maintain enthusiasm for reading. Encourage prediction and empathising with the characters as well as being able to summarise the plot, showing understanding of meanings beyond the literal.
A weekly spelling test will take place on Fridays.
In our Literacy lessons, we will be looking at:
- Stories from other cultures
- Poetry
- Writing reports/explanations
Thank you very much for your support.
Yours sincerely,
SOPHIA DELLAVALLE
