Year 5 Fire Safety Workshop

Year 5 Fire Safety workshop Members of the London Fire Brigade visited Year 5 to deliver an informative and engaging talk about the importance of fire safety.

During the session, the children discussed who to call in an emergency and confidently recapped the emergency number, 999. They were guided through each step of making an emergency call, learning the importance of knowing their full home address and postcode so that help can reach them quickly. The firefighters also explained how to stay safe in the event of a fire, focusing on the key principles of prevention, detection and escape.

Year 5 learnt practical ways to reduce fire risks, recognise warning signs and respond safely during an emergency. It was a valuable and informative talk that highlighted the importance of safety and helped the children feel more prepared and responsible.

Cricket Final

The 2025 London Cricket final was held recently at Beckenham. The team qualified for the final by winning their Greenwich regional competition last July. We anticipated a highly competitive competition but the children attacked it with great confidence after training really well in the last few weeks. They flew through their first three group games winning all the games comfortably. Some superb batting and bowling, coupled with a few defining fielding moments in the last group game from Matthew and Demilade which set the team up for a tough quarter final against a school from Dulwich. Superb batting from Jeremy, Charles and Fenix set the team up for a huge semi final against a team from Bromley. Monty, Isaac and Thomas had a great spell on the bat in the final game and some fantastic bowling from Louise saw the team sail into the final.  Our opponents in the final were an exceptional team and the children gave their very best display but were edged out.  Everyone should be very proud of the children. Over 700 schools started in this competition so to finish second overall is an outstanding achievement. The school has now won the Greenwich regional competition 3 years running, won the London finals once, and now a second placed finish. It is a wonderful record which the children of OLOG should be very proud of.    A fantastic achievement coming 2nd out of 700 London Primary schools.

Royal Naval College Visit Yr 5

Year 5 enjoyed a fantastic trip to the Royal Naval College in Greenwich, where they took part in an exciting Myths and Legends workshop. During the workshop, the children explored famous stories and legends linked to the history of the site and discovered how myths were used to entertain and inspire people in the past. The children also had the opportunity to become artists for the day by creating their own paint using organic resources, water and oil. They then practised painting their own beautiful designs, inspired by the spectacular ceiling in the Painted Hall. It was a wonderful day filled with creativity, history and hands-on learning.
