Year 6 - Oscar Romero

Oscar Romero

Spring 2026

This term in Year 6 science, our topic has been Evolution and Inheritance. Pupils have been exploring how living things have changed over time and how characteristics are passed from parents to offspring. They investigated how fossils provide evidence for evolution, what fossils can tell us about organisms that lived millions of years ago, and how adaptation supports survival. To showcase their learning, pupils created detailed double-page spreads all about fossils, clearly presenting their scientific knowledge, key vocabulary and understanding of how fossils help scientists learn about the past.

Autumn 2025

In Year 6, we have been studying persuasive writing. We explored famous speeches and the techniques that make them powerful. Using these skills, we wrote our own persuasive speeches explaining why we would make a great Head Boy or Head Girl. Finally, we presented them to KS2 in our very own school election.

In Year 6 we have been looking at the narrative poem 'The Listeners' We have explored the way in which some poets have used a narrative style to engage and entertain readers. Understanding how a narrative style has been created in poetry has helped us to use narrative techniques within our own writing. We have been able to write narrative poems based on the theme 'Is Anybody There?'.  Please click on the link below to view the samples of work.
