Mini Vinnies' visit to Westcombe Park Care Home

Our Mini Vinnies group, led by Mrs Perera and Miss Erokwu, recently visited Westcombe Park Care Home as part of their mission to serve others in our community. Eight of our pupils proudly represented the school, demonstrating Catholic Social Teaching through their actions of kindness, respect, and compassion. During their visit, the children thoughtfully prepared and delivered hampers for the hardworking staff and created beautiful Easter cards for both residents and carers. They spent meaningful time talking with the residents, listening to their life stories, learning about the jobs they once had, the places they have travelled, and even discussing the football teams they support. These conversations were a valuable opportunity for the children to appreciate the dignity and worth of every individual, especially those who may feel vulnerable or isolated. It was a truly enriching experience for all involved, and our pupils showed great maturity, empathy, and a genuine commitment to caring for others. We look forward to our next visit.

Grand Opening of the New Build - Canon Victor Darlington

We were honoured to welcome Canon Victor (Episcopal Victor for Education) to officially open our new building. His presence made the occasion feel truly significant, marking an exciting new chapter for our school community. The opening ceremony was a moment of pride for everyone involved. a chance to celebrate the hard work, planning, and dedication that brought this project to life. Canon Victor's warm words and encouragement added a special touch to the day, reminding us of the importance of community, collaboration and shared purpose. During his visit, we had the pleasure of showing him and Colette Doran Hannon, (Diocesan Schools Commissioner) around the school and sharing the vision behind our new spaces. They took a genuine interest in the learning environment, the children, and the opportunities this building will create for years to come. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm and learnt more about the work taking place across the school. We look forward to all the learning, creativity and growth that will take place within these new walls and we are grateful to Canon Victor for helping us mark the beginning of this exciting journey.

Year 6 Residential Trip to Kingswood

Year 6 had a fantastic trip to PGL Ashford. Their three days were jam-packed with exciting activities including archery, raft building, climbing walls, the trapeze, problem-solving challenges, a thrilling ride on the 5G swing, aeroball, a campfire and orienteering. The pupils had an amazing time while developing teamwork, resilience and problem-solving skills. It was a memorable trip and a wonderful opportunity for them to learn new skills outside the classroom.

World Book Day

Our Lady of Grace had a fantastic time celebrating World Book Day! Thursday and Friday were filled with a variety of exciting activities designed to foster a love of reading amongst our pupils. We were fortunate to welcome Julian, an artist who worked with our Year 5 pupils to create new artwork for our library. Their favourite book characters will soon be proudly displayed for everyone to enjoy. We were also delighted to host Marcello Salas, a local author, who delivered two inspiring assemblies and led creative writing workshops for our Year 2 pupils. Parents were warmly welcomed into school to take part in reading sessions with their child and other pupils from the class. Our dedicated staff joined in the fun by dressing up as a range of book characters, while pupils took part in a treasure hunt around the school. Following reading clues, they travelled from classroom to classroom meeting different characters along the way until they finally discovered the treasure! All pupils had the opportunity to visit our new library, and many enjoyed shared reading sessions with older or younger peers. Key Stage 2 pupils also took part in the National Literacy Trust’s Footy and Book Quiz online. It was a wonderful celebration of reading and storytelling, and a fantastic opportunity to share our love of books across the whole school community.

Social Media and Online Safety Workshop

Today, Year 5 welcomed Mr Taylor, who gave a talk about social media and mobile phone safety. He discussed the appropriate age limits for different apps and emphasised that online friends are strangers. The children enjoyed sharing their own experiences, including their social media habits and what their parents do and don’t know about how they use their devices. We also talked about how to report and block anything that makes us feel uncomfortable online.     We will share the presentation here when it is available.

New Build Update and Thank you to PTFA

Over the half-term break, our building contractors were on site completing all outstanding snagging items in the new building. This marks another important step in ensuring that the space is fully ready for the children to enjoy, and we are delighted with the progress that has been made. I would also like to express my sincere thanks to the PTFA, who have very generously donated £9,000 towards the installation of the red rubber crumb surface at the back of the new building. This new surface will significantly enhance the outdoor learning and play environment, providing a safer, more durable, and more accessible area for all pupils to use throughout the year. The PTFA’s continued support plays a vital role in enriching the school experience for our children. Their fundraising efforts made possible by the time, energy, and generosity of our parent community have a direct and meaningful impact on the facilities and opportunities we are able to offer. We are extremely grateful for their commitment and for the difference they make.
