The decision regarding Sports Day has now been taken out of our control.
The venue has advised us that the London County Cricket organisation has cancelled all under-18 fixtures, and the Met Office has extended its red weather warning to include Friday. In light of these developments, and with the safety and wellbeing of our pupils, staff, and families as our foremost priority, we regret to confirm that the event cannot proceed. Unfortunately, due to venue availability and wider logistical constraints, we are unable to confirm an alternative date at this time. Should a suitable opportunity arise, we will, of course, communicate this to you promptly. We fully appreciate that this news will be disappointing for many of our pupils, as it is for us.
We thank you for your understanding and support in what is an exceptional and unforeseen situation.

Dear Parents
The past few days have been unprecedented, with much being shared on social media. As always, we want to reassure you that your children’s wellbeing remains at the heart of every decision we make.
Since Monday, the school has been taking a comprehensive and proactive approach to ensure all children remain safe and comfortable during the extreme heat. Staff are closely monitoring temperatures throughout the day and adjusting activities as needed. Outdoor play is being limited or moved to shaded areas.
To clarify the measures currently in place:
Children’s water bottles may remain on their desks. They are being reminded regularly to drink, and water is available at all times.
Classrooms are being kept as cool as possible, with fans in use, lights off, and blinds down to reduce heat.
Children are monitored closely, as they are every day. If a child becomes unwell, parents will be contacted immediately.
As a school, we are not in favour of closing or shortening the school day, as this would have a significant impact on families who are unable to take time off work. Additionally, the measures we are taking in school are similar to what parents would be able to provide at home.
However, if you feel uncomfortable sending your child to school during this heatwave, you may keep them at home. Please ensure you contact the school office if you choose to do so.by emailing absence@ourladyofgraceschool.co.uk.
Please be reassured that all staff are doing their very best to keep children hydrated, safe and comfortable during this period of extreme weather.
Sports Day – Friday
Sports Day is scheduled to take place at Blackheath Cricket Ground. If we cancel the event, it will unfortunately not be possible to reschedule before the end of term.
We would very much like Sports Day to go ahead; however, with the forecasted heat, adjustments to the programme will be necessary. Mr Maher, our Sports Coach, will be in school tomorrow, and we will review the arrangements with him.
Parents will be informed of the school’s final decision by the end of the school day on Thursday.

Yesterday, St Gerard and St Joseph Class had the pleasure of visiting Joss Bay on a much-anticipated school trip. The children had been looking forward to the day for weeks, and it certainly lived up to all expectations. The weather was kind to us, creating the perfect setting for a wonderful day by the seaside. Throughout the visit, the children thoroughly enjoyed building sandcastles and spending time with their friends in a different learning environment. They were excited to discover a variety of treasures , including several crab shells, which sparked lots of curiosity and discussion about marine life.
The trip provided many opportunities for the children to develop their observation skills and appreciation of the natural world, while also creating lasting memories together. It was wonderful to see so much enthusiasm, excitement, and excellent behaviour throughout the day.
A huge thank you goes to all the adults and parent helpers who generously gave their time and support to make the trip possible. Their help ensured that the children had a safe, enjoyable, and memorable experience. We are very grateful for their assistance and for helping to make such a successful day for everyone involved.
