Yr 6 Visit by David Hall - Science Workshop

Year 6 thoroughly enjoyed their Genome Explorers assembly with David Hall. The session was arranged in partnership with the Cambridge Science Centre. The pupils learnt all about DNA and genes, and how these carry the instructions that make each living thing unique. They looked closely at the double helix structure of DNA and explored how the “bases” (A, T, C and G) pair up. They learnt that these base pairs form a code that tells cells how to grow, function, and repair themselves. Pupils also discovered how genes are passed from parents to children and how small changes in DNA can make us all different.

Leonard Silver - Judaism Workshops

Today in RE, we had the amazing opportunity to listen to Leonard Silver, a Jewish man from Scotland. He came in to talk to us about what it means to be Jewish in today’s world. We learnt so much about the Jewish faith, including the different religious festivals, important places and figures of worship, and some of the special clothes Jewish people wear and why they wear them. We also got the chance to ask Leonard our own questions. Some of us asked why Jewish people don’t believe in Jesus, and how they are able to understand and read the Torah. Leonard answered all our questions and helped us understand things better. At the end of the session, Leonard talked about the Holocaust and explained why it is so important that we learn about it and never forget that period of history. It was such an incredible session, and we feel really lucky that we got to listen to him.

Remembrance Day - 11th November 2025

As a school, we came together to observe a minute's silence for Remembrance Day. We reflected on the courage and sacrifice of those who have served to protect our peace and freedom. Our Head Boy and Head Girl led the service by reading a prayer and the poem In Flanders Fields. Prayer: Almighty God, We remembered with gratitude those who served and sacrificed for peace and freedom.  May we live with courage, kindness, and hope, working together for a world where peace prevails. Amen.

We welcome Councillor Khaireh to Our Lady of Grace

The School Council members had a fantastic time meeting Councillor Adel Khaireh, Labour’s councillor for Plumstead and Glyndon today. During the visit, they were eager to learn more about his role within the local community and the responsibilities that come with being an elected representative. Councillor Khaireh spoke about the importance of teamwork, listening to others, and making decisions that benefit everyone — qualities that also make a great school council member. He shared his experiences of working with local residents, addressing community concerns, and helping to shape improvements across the area. The pupils asked thoughtful questions about leadership, fairness, and how they could make a real difference within their own school. Councillor Khaireh encouraged them to be confident in sharing their ideas, to work collaboratively, and to always consider the views of their peers.

Autumn Girls Shield Football Tournament

On Thursday 16th October, 8 girls from years 5 and 6 took part in the Autumn Girls Shield Football Tournament held at Charlton Athletic Training Ground. They were narrowly beaten to a semi-final place by the eventual finalists. We are immensely proud of their efforts and they displayed tremendous teamwork as this was their first competitive match. We wish the boys team every success as they will be competing in the Autumn Boys Shield Football Tournament on 23rd October. This team will comprise 8 boys from years 5 and 6.
