SEND and Inclusion

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

All Greenwich maintained schools have a similar approach to meeting the needs of pupils with Special Educational Needs and are supported by the Local Authority to ensure that all pupils, regardless of their specific needs, make the best possible progress in school. All schools are supported to be as inclusive as possible, with the needs of pupils with a Special Educational Need/s and or disabilities being met in a mainstream setting wherever possible, where families want this to happen.

The School’s SENDCO is Miss Niamh Healey and can be contacted on 020 8858 2262 or by email to: sao@ourladyofgraceschool.co.uk

SEN GOVERNOR VISITS

Autumn 2025

Sam Gannon -  I met with the Headteacher and SEND Co‑ordinator, to review progress and future plans for children on the SEND register.

  • Interventions: We discussed the range of interventions currently in place across the school to support pupils with additional needs.

  • External Support: Specific pupils benefit from the involvement of ASD Outreach services and Speech and Language Therapy (SALT).

  • Progress Reviews: Progress is carefully monitored, with appropriate targets set and reviewed each half term to ensure provision remains responsive and effective.

  • Trends: Over the past three years, SEN data in school has shown that OLOG SEN is below national average, however within this cohort we have children with complex needs that require  a greater ratio of support for them to be accommodated and included within the classroom.

  • Commendation: Despite this rise, the quality, consistency, and rigour of support for each child has remained strong. The dedication of the SEND Co‑ordinator and wider staff team deserves recognition and commendation.

  • Safeguarding and Record Keeping  I checked the location and security of the school’s records, including the Single Central Register. I confirmed that these documents are stored securely in a locked drawer, in line with statutory safeguarding requirements.

Spring Term 2025

Sam Gannon - I met with the Headteacher and SEND Co-ordinator to discuss the following:

  • The updates on funding/resources and the impact this is having on the progress of children with EHCP.
  • Opportunities for parental engagement and how
  • How external agencies' involvement is and discussed their impact.  We discussed
  • What interventions are in place and how this is being monitored

Safeguarding and Record Keeping  I checked the location and security of the school’s records, including the Single Central Register. I confirmed that these documents are stored securely in a locked drawer, in line with statutory safeguarding requirements.

Spring Term 2025

Sam Gannon - As part of my wider SEN Governor responsibilities, I met with the school’s SEND Co-ordinator to review provision and pupil progress; together we discussed pupils currently on the SEN register, examining case studies in detail to scrutinise their progress and ensure SEN funding was being used effectively to support their needs.  We also considered those not formally on the register but receiving targeted interventions.  We evaluated the overall effectiveness of these strategies, identifying areas of strength and those requiring refinement.  We agreed to continue monitoring outcomes, adapting support where necessary, and maintaining close oversight of funding to ensure accountability and impact.

March 2022

Jayne Penston -  I met with Ms Barrett the SEN Co-ordinator to discuss progress and plans for children on the SEND register within the school. We discussed the interventions that take place for children across the school, the involvement of ASD outreach and SALT for certain pupils and how progress was reviewed and appropriate targets set each half term. At Our Lady of Grace there has been a significant increase in the past 3 years of the number of children coming into the school who need SEND support, however the support and rigour around each one of these children has not changed and the SEND coordinator and staff in school must be commended for that.

July 2019

Maria-Christina Eskioglou - I had a meeting with Olivia Gisby, the School's SENCO, as part of my overall SEN responsibilities. We discussed the pupils on the register and the children that are receiving additional support in several areas. We discussed the different interventions and their overall effectiveness. We also discussed some case studies and examined the progress those children are making and scrutinised how the SEN funding is being used to support those pupils.

February 2018

Caroline Malley - I had a meeting with the School's SENCO, as part of my overall SEN responsibilities. We discussed the pupils on the register, as well as those pupils who are not on the register but are receiving additional support in areas such as Maths, where they are not making the required progress. We discussed the overall effectiveness of the interventions. I also talked through the various case studies of those pupils on the register and examined the progress they are making and scrutinised how the SEN funding is being used to support those pupils.

I checked where the School records are kept, including the Single Central Register and ensured that they are kept in a locked drawer as required.
